Click the CC icon or select the Setting ( gear icon) button. Select the Captions option. Choose a CC track from the list. Click on the Options to adjust how closed captions appear on your screen. As with the phone, just repeat the above to turn off closed captions if you no longer need them on the web.
Select the Audio & Subtitles option. Make your subtitle selections. Go back to the options panel. Press Play to start playback with the new settings. The first method works on most Smart TVs

So the subtitles usually don't play and I have to go to the Plex options on the TV and disable direct play which usually works. Under the account menu on the server I have it set to play subs when there is foreign language but it doesn't work by itself.
As with many other television sets, the Sharp Aquos TV comes with closed captioning. This service posts the words and sentences spoken during a television program at the bottom of the Aquos TV. While closed captioning can be convenient for the hearing impaired, it can also be extremely irritating if you do not want the service enabled.
